Pepilla’s top 10 trend update: Athleisure, marble and minimalism

May 28, 2016

Fashion has twisted and turned in to a lot of changes, some more drastic than others, but recently things have been taking a different trail. Lately, things have gone more grey and white and not just outfits have become more minimal, but everything in general really. There’s definitely been an obsession with simplicity and a lot of trends are focusing on comfort.  We’re also getting a taste of a futuristic style – like Zenon, OMG – that we might not see now but possibly in the near future. Anyway, here are 10 current trends that I think are prevailing lately.

Baseball caps: I LOVE THIS ONE. At first, I thought “This is ridiculous. Nobody looks good in hats.” but now, I think “Nobody looks good in hats except for baseball caps.” These are literally so adorable, and come in all kinds of shades and designs. I’m a bigger fan of the basic ones that are just solid colored or have a simple graphic on the front, but whatever floats your boat. Here are a few cute baseball caps you might be in da mood to purchase.

Body Contouring: We’ve taken it one step furthur and we’ve started to contour and highlight our body. With products being sold everywhere from Forever 21 to CVS, it’s so much easier to make your body the way you want it to be – the lazy way. It’s as easy as it sounds, it’s just like contouring and highlighting your face. You highlight the places you want enhanced and contour the places you want minimized. You’re one brush stroke away from perfectly toned muscles and chiseled features.

Suede: The 70’s are making a huge comeback, especially this summer, and suede is a huge part of that trend. I’m totally diggin’ the throwback and loving suede in most outfits, especially dresses and skirts. However you decide to wear it, you’re gonna be poppin’.

Athleisure: This recent trend has me bursting in my yoga pants. If I think about it, I probably have more athletic wear than I do normal clothing. Whether it’s because of my father’s personal training background or because I love lounging around in gym shorts. And now, designers are combining fashion with athleisure and leaving us with comfortable, chic and super trendy outfit options for your typical sporty gal.

One piece swimsuits: A lot of ladies are starting to drop their bikinis and starting to buy one piece ones instead. There’s something about it that gives a less is more kinda vibe. Plus, there’s plenty more you can do design wise — from graphic designs to cut outs that are sure to leave you with crazy tan lines – with the extra space on your tummy. Here are a few cute one piece suits that you might be in the mood to purchase.

Color correcting: At first, you might think you look funny but it’s really ridiculous how much color correcting works on your skin. Usually a palette consists of five different colors; green, purple, orange, peach and yellow. Color correcting works around the color wheel, so whichever color you use you’re using it to neutralize the opposite color. Green neutralizes red, so it’s especially good for acne, rosacea and even sunburns. Purple is directly across from the color yellow, so it’s perfect for concealing yellow spots and adds glow to pasty or dull skin. Orange neutralizes the color blue so it’s good for covering dark circles, bruises, tattoos and veins. Peach is used to brighten your face, especially under your eyes by using it to highlight and cover up bags. And yellow is good for normal concealing of any blemishes or spots you want to cover up. After you finish color correcting, you continue with your normal foundation and contour routine and you’ll notice the difference immediately! Remember that not everyone actually needs to color correct and if you do, make it minimal.

Cacti or flowering plants: A big trend I’ve noticed on Tumblr, Twitter and every other social media sight there is are plants. It’s becoming a huge staple piece for decorating any room, which I’m totally on board with. It gives your room a sense of purity and some plants actually have been proven to detoxify the air, de-stress your surroundings and actually help you sleep. Cacti is becoming the most popular form of indoor landscaping because of how easy they are to maintain, which anyone would prefer. I mean, I haven’t watered my cacti in two months and they’re still going strong.

Scented makeup: This has always been around, with the Too Faced Chocolate series especially. But it’s becoming more and more prevalent, with more and more brands and makeup products. Warning: if you have sensitive skin, you might want to sample it before you buy the products because some of the ingredients could be harsh for you. Otherwise, imagine applying chocolate scented bronzer. Mmm.

Monochrome: I killed it with this one when I predicted it back in 2013 by decorating my room with a black and white theme, but black and white and greys are huge right now. Most people have a monochromatic wardrobe and a lot of people have a monochromatic or a minimalist room theme. It’s easier to experiment with because black and white matches with just about everything – sometimes even brown regardless of what people say. White also gives the space a feeling of clarity and cleanliness and also has been proven to help people think more clearly.

Marble: Omg, show me anything marble and the little designer inside me will come out screaming. I just love marble and lately a lot of people have been loving it too. Not just with interior decorating but in fashion and beauty too, using it for a plethora of things like phone cases, nail polish and purses too. Not the actual material of course but the look of it makes things simpler, cleaner and again more minimal.
