Pepilla’s Summer 2015 road trip essentials: In my suitcase … and in my headphones

August 11, 2015

There’s something about summer that makes the open road and the varied scenery our country has to offer worth packing up and spending a few hours in your car.

Recently, I just turned 15 and for my birthday I decideddisney I would take a couple of my friends and head up to Disney World to revisit my childhood.

Now, with road trips packing can be a little complicated cause you don’t really know what to bring or even how to bring it.

To use a suitcase or not to use a suitcase, that is the question. Depending on your length of stay, you might do with an overnight bag or a backpack. I always over pack, so I take a suitcase even for a weekend.

Here are the essential things I bring with me on the road:

  • Things to wear, obviously. Usually, when I go on a road trip I pick casual things to wear. Anything that keeps you comfortable. Shorts. Jeans. Cottons t-shirts.
  • I mean, if you’re on the road it’s easy to get a bite to eat when you stop to use the restroom or get some rest. But if you get hungry in between the breaks, take a couple snacks like a granola bar, a  banana or a bag of nuts to fill you up before you arrive to your destination.
  • A book is something that will keep you entertained while you’re in the car for long hours. If you’re like me and netflixyou get headaches reading in the car, then watching a movie or episodes of your favorite TV show on Netflix or Hulu works too.
  • I always, always, always pack a neck pillow and a couple of blankets because sitting for a long time can sometimes make the big ol’ bottom hurt and it’s extremely important to stay comfortable.
  • Something to take pictures with, whether it’s a professional camera or the camera on your phone, is super essential to making the memories you’ll be making on your road trip. I would also bring a selfie stick to help you take selfies while capturing whatever scenery might be behind you.
  • Toiletries like hand sanitizer, facial wipes, tissues or paper towels could help you keep yourself and everyoneFirst-Aid-Kit clean. Because let’s be honest… with those rest stop bathrooms who knows what you’ll be touching on the road? Also, a first aid kit is a great idea to bring, because no matter how careful you are, accidents happen.
  • Make sure you also bring sunscreen and your sunglasses because the sun is our friend.
  • An aux chord and a bomb ass playlist is probably one of the most important things to bring with you on the road. Not just for when the radio signal starts dying, but also because you don’t want to be stuck listening to whatever it is they listen to in Padukaville, Florida.
  • And of course a beauty bag, with all your beauty essentials, is important too!

Since I live in Miami and Orlando is a near 4 hours away, my road trip is not as long as many are. But any road trip can be made shorter with the perfect playlist on Spotify. Here’s my pick for this summer.

With that playlist, I guarantee a huge jam session is gonna happen in your car.

But, at the end of the day, material things aren’t going to create your memories… you will. So, the most important thing to bring with you on the road is a great group of friends or family and a positive attitude.

Have fun, pepillas!
